Managing Resources / Procurement Items.
It is the contractor’s responsibility to engage subcontractors, specialist installers, and suppliers, and arranging for materials, equipment, construction tools, and all disciplines of human resources needed to get the project completed as per contract documents and specifications.
It goes without saying that:
workmanship is key in achieving quality construction.
Ms Qaqamba Selikane:
Upon contract award, one of the deliverables within the project team should be preparing a
procurement log based on the project completion schedule.
Delivery of long lead items must be initiated at an early stage of the project and be monitored quite closely. Material orders that are placed late can cause delayed delivery of the material, which has a knock-on effect on the project completion date. So it’s advisable to update the logs on a regular basis and action should be taken promptly to avoid delays.
We share a sample of a procurement log that one can use to fill out for monitoring and tracking on any project.

Be intentional and make it part of the daily activities to exercise good contract and risk management in the company. Take time and ensure to have management systems in place like policies, procedures on contract reviews, preparation of contract roadmaps and periodic reviews from time to time.
The organisation needs to be decisive on it’s risk appetite and ensure to have a checklist for review of contracts which reflects that appetite. With just a shift and incorporating these principles into an organisation will definitely help future proof a business and give sustenance in this construction industry.
